Equestrian Classes

The equestrian events at Howden Show are a major highlight, attracting local horse enthusiasts, riders, and spectators.

Howden Show offers a range of competitions and displays that showcase the skill, beauty, and versatility of horses.

The show not only celebrates the beauty and athleticism of horses but also showcases the deep bond between horse and rider in a variety of disciplines. Whether you’re an equestrian enthusiast or a casual visitor, the equestrian events at Howden Show provide a captivating and entertaining experience.

Here’s an overview of what you can expect from the equestrian section of Howden Show:

Equestrian showing classes

Judge: Katie Norris, JKN Equine Sport Massage Therapist

Class H1 - Tack and Turnout (any breed, age, plaited or un-plaited, in-hand or ridden)

Class H2 - Child Handler (handler to be 16 years old and under)

Class H3 - Mountain and moorland - in-hand (pure and part bred – see Rule 4)

Class H4 - Coloured - in-hand (any height, breed, age, plaited or un-plaited. Appaloosa, Dun, Palomino, Piebald, Skewbald, Strawberry/Blue Roan)

Class H5 - Veteran - ridden or in-hand (15 years or over, handler any age)

Class H6 - Novice Ridden (including lead rein and first ridden)

Class H7 - Open Ridden

Class H8 - Mountain and moorland - ridden (small breed, pure and part bred – see Rule 4)

Class H9 - Coloured - ridden (any height, breed, age, plaited or un-plaited. Appaloosa, Dun, Palomino, Piebald, Skewbald, Strawberry/Blue Roan)

Championship - Winners from classes 1 to 9 are eligible to compete; there is no fee for this class.

Please notify the entry secretary on the show field if you do not intend to come forward for this class.
