Equestrian Classes

The equestrian events at Howden Show are a major highlight, attracting local horse enthusiasts, riders, and spectators.

Howden Show offers a range of competitions and displays that showcase the skill, beauty, and versatility of horses.

The show not only celebrates the beauty and athleticism of horses but also showcases the deep bond between horse and rider in a variety of disciplines. Whether you’re an equestrian enthusiast or a casual visitor, the equestrian events at Howden Show provide a captivating and entertaining experience.

Here’s an overview of what you can expect from the equestrian section of Howden Show:

Equestrian showing classes

Judge: Katie Norris, JKN Equine Sport Massage Therapist

Class H1 - Tack and Turnout (any breed, age, plaited or un-plaited, in-hand or ridden)

Class H2 - Mountain and moorland - in-hand (pure and part bred – see Rule 4)

Class H3 - Coloured - in-hand (any height, breed, age, plaited or un-plaited. Appaloosa, Dun, Palomino, Piebald, Skewbald, Strawberry/Blue Roan)

Class H4 - Veteran - ridden or in-hand (15 years or over, handler any age)

Class H5 - Novice Ridden (including lead rein and first ridden)

Class H6 - Open Ridden

Class H7 - Mountain and moorland - ridden (small breed, pure and part bred – see Rule 4)

Class H8 - Coloured - ridden (any height, breed, age, plaited or un-plaited. Appaloosa, Dun, Palomino, Piebald, Skewbald, Strawberry/Blue Roan)

Championship - Winners from classes 1 to 8 are eligible to compete; there is no fee for this class.

Please notify the entry secretary on the show field if you do not intend to come forward for this class.

Entry fee: £4 in advance, £7 on the day

Entries must be received by 2nd July to qualify for advance fee.

Note on vehicles: Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes cannot access the parking area and will not be admitted onto the site.
