The Make & Grow classes at Howden Show celebrate local creativity and nature. Whether you’re into crafting, baking, or gardening, there’s a category to showcase your talents.
The Handicraft Section invites you to share your handmade creations, while the Horticulture classes highlight the beauty of homegrown plants and flowers. These classes foster a sense of community, encourage learning, and inspire everyone to get involved, create, and grow. It’s a chance to shine.
Entry is £1 per class payable on the day.
- 1st Prize – £4
- 2nd Prize – £3
- 3rd Prize – £2
Entries can be made between 7am – 9am.
No vehicles will be allowed onto the showground after 8.15am.
The marquee will be closed for judging by 9.20am.
If you are under 16 and entering an adult class, please display your age on the front
of your entry.
Prize cards will be displayed next to the winning entries.
Entries should be removed by 5pm, but not before 4.15pm.

Section 1 – Flowers
Helpful hints for horticultural exhibitors
- Read the class definition carefully. If a specific number is stated, be sure that the judge will count correctly, so make sure that you do.
- All soft fruit require the stalks or sprigs to be attached.
- Rhubarb should be pulled not cut, leaving 8cm (3ins) of leaf at the top.
- All root vegetables are best washed but not polished.
- Beetroot and carrot leaves may be trimmed to 8cm (3ins).
- Cabbage, cauliflower and lettuce require at least 3cm (1in) stalk remaining.
- Courgettes maximum length 15cm (6ins) ideally, with flower attached.
